Mom Can You Stop The Sun From Shining In My Face?

As we drove to church on a sunny Sunday morning in Houston. The sunset was high and hot, just how we like it and it’s not even summer yet.

David was sitting behind the driver seat and he said ‘’mom can you stop the sun from shining in my face?”

I smiled to myself thinking this boy must think mom can do all things? Of course he believes mom can do anything, why else would he ask?

I replied David “mom cannot stop the sun from shining in your face but God can.”

As we drove the direction of the sun changed and David settled down.

It got me thinking how much faith my son has in me that I could do anything. Isn’t that just the type of child-like faith that the bible speaks of? If only we all have that type of faith in God, we can move mountains.

For David to have that kind of faith in me, this comes through relationship – a deep and personal relationship.  A relationship based on love and trust.

We breathe the same air, eat the same food, hugs and kisses daily. I’m answering all the why questions all day long, correcting him when he’s out of line. Making sure that he abides by our house rules. Raising him in the way of the Lord, to love the Lord and to know His voice.

“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. (Matt 22:37-38 KJV)

I pray that we can all have this intimate relationship with God. Then we can ask anything in Jesus name and know that God will grant our request. Our relationship with Him must be based on love not just a gimme relationship.

And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. (John 14:13 ASV)

The bible talks about Elijah being a man just like us.  Meaning that he faced many obstacle and temptation as we did. Yet, he prayed and God answered him.

Elijah was a man of like passions with us, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain; and it rained not on the earth for three years and six months. 18 And he prayed again; and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit. (James 5:17-18
17 ASV)

Joshua Prayed to God for the sun to stand still and it did! How audacious is that?

Then spake Joshua to Jehovah in the day when Jehovah delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel; and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; And thou, Moon, in the valley of Aijalon. (Jos 10:12 ASV)

God has no favorite and the stories in the bible are there to encourage us that we can be like any of this men if we so desire to. Jesus said Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto the Father. (John 14:12 ASV)

While I may not have been able to stop the sun from shining into David’s face. God can. We must have faith and believe that whatsoever we ask in His name will be done.

My friends, I am off to command every mountain, goliath and obstacles in our lives to be cast into the sea in Jesus’s name, Amen.

You never know what one of my children may ask me next!

I hope you do the same too. The word is in your mouth but it’s only powerful through your deeper walk with Christ.
