Raising Up Young Prayer Warriors

Our Three Prayer Warriors

We are busy equipping our children with Kingdom keys that would help them throughout their lives.

Our role as parents is to be loving, nurturer, guide, provider, and protector. I want our children prepared for life’s challenges, and prayer is an important key.

Attending church weekly is very great, but we should not leave the discipling of our children to Sunday school teachers. It’s the responsibility of every parent who loves their children.

Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6

I desire to leave a legacy of prayer for our children. Children have child-like faith. (Matthew 18:3-4). They believe God hears and answers prayers.

Since Faith was an infant, we’ve prayed a simple prayer with her, and at the end, we shout out loud 3 sets of Praises! That is the fun part; they learned the act of lifting holy hands to God.

The prayer goes like this;

God bless Daddy, God bless Mommy, God bless Faith, God bless David, God bless Joshua, God bless our Family, God bless the Church, God bless the President, God bless America, God bless the Pastor, God bless our Friends, God bless Israel, God bless Texas, God bless Everybody.

Praise the Lord – Hallelujah!
Praise the Lord – Hallelujah!
Praise the Lord – Hallelujah!

Initially, we aimed to introduce prayer to them in a simple and fun way.  To teach them to seek God for everything (Jeremiah 29:12)

Prayer Is Fun
We really were not prepared for them hijacking prayer time. Our simple prayer time can go on and on if we allow them to have their way.

Interceding For Others
The children have included their friends and teachers. They pray for their boo-boos, potty training. They pray for animals, colors, and shapes.

Prayer Is Educational
They ask questions at prayer time – What is Israel? Who is the President? This allows us to share what the bible says about Israel (Psalm 122:6) and praying for those in authority. (1 Timothy 2:1-2)

Praying For The Nations
When my husband goes on business trips, we include his destination in our prayers. Now they know the different countries around the world.

Prayer Builds Confidence
We pray over everything and have taught them to pray for each other. They pray for anyone who is sick. They expect that they get healed instantly too!

Keep in mind their ages, make prayer fun, exciting and interactive. Keeping it short and direct. Prayer an act of worship to the Lord.

Model Prayer For Them
As parents, we should be godly examples for them to follow. Our children want to be Mini-Me. They want to copy and do what we do.

If you do your part, living your life transparently before them, they will follow suit. We pray in front of our children. We dance and worship the Lord with them, and they do the same too.

Praying In The Spirit
While, I was praying in tongues one day. Faith got curious and wanted to know in what language was I praying. I seized the opportunity to tell her about the Holy Spirit – who is Jesus’s BFF. Since she already loves Jesus, immediately she asked if she could speak in tongues too?

Are you kidding me? Could she? You bet she can! It was so easy to lead her in prayer and asked her to open her mouth and speak. Well, my little prayer warrior has been speaking in tongues ever since. Except that she teased her little brother about it. Which made him demanded to be taught how to speak in the spirit too!

Can you believe this? What a set-up by God, huh? You can’t make this stuff up!

A Word of caution – once you start them on this road you have to be consistent. If you are not, they will call you out!

There have been times when I just wanted us to say a quick prayer and hit the sack. These kids are not having any of that and will insist on praying for their school friends individually!

All I really wanted us to say is a simple prayer – God bless everyone!
