The Year Of DOING IT

Most people start the new year with a set of goals and visions. I certainly had my list too. 

I’ve run out of excuses for not achieving my goals.

Enough is enough, it’s time to grow up and be an adult. There will always be something that’s preventing us from achieving our goals if we let it. Life is about seasons. Identify your current season, then set realistic goals.

So that is why for me, now is the year of “DOING IT”.  I spent the last few weeks reviewing what I was able to achieve and areas that need improvement. This year I have tried to just focus on few goals. Some are easier to do than others; of course, I chose some of the easier ones first, but I like the feeling of achieving and completing something soon which keeps the momentum on.

I decided to join the Toastmasters International club, which has helped millions of men and women become confident speakers in front of an audience. Toastmasters will give you the skills and confidence you need to effectively express yourself in any situation. Whether you are a professional, student, stay-at-home parent, or retiree. Toastmasters is the most efficient, enjoyable, and affordable way of gaining great communication skills. By learning to effectively formulate and express your ideas, you open an entirely new world of possibilities. You’ll be more persuasive and confident when giving presentations and you’ll improve your one-on-one dealings with others.

Public speaking is a common source of stress for everyone, especially moi. Some studies have shown that fear of public speaking ranks up close to the fear of death. I decided to do something about it this year and it’s going great. Although I am yet to overcome it completely. I’m getting more confident by the day and not as stressed as I use to be. I wonder why I didn’t do this earlier, well rather later than never!

Due to my fear of public speaking, I have passed on some really good opportunities because I was reluctant to face my fear. That’s all behind me, now, I’m overcoming my fear and I am seeing the rewards quickly. I am encouraged to face whatever stands in my way now. Who knows I might take up flying lessons!!! This year is the year of ”DOING IT’. I can’t wait for the end of this year to come and see all the things I’m able to achieve. I am excited!
