Most people start the year with a set of goals and visions for 2010. I certainly had a list too and I usually end the previous year taking time out to take note of what I was able to accomplish and which ones I will be adding on to the oncoming year’s list.
I have gotten to that stage that I have run out of excuses why I am unable to do this or that! There are no more excuses for me because I noticed that every year I seem to have one excuse or the other. My initial excuse was because I got pregnant, but now that the baby has arrived, I have no more excuses.
Enough is enough, it’s time to grow up and be an adult. There will always be something that prevents us from achieving our goals if we let it and I do understand that live is about seasons but you should be able to recognize what season you are in so that you can set realistic goals.
So that is why for me, the year 2010, is the year of “DOING IT”. December 2009, I spent the last few weeks reviewing what I was able to achieve and areas that needs more work. This year I have tried to just focus on those goals and do something about all of them. Some are easier to do than others; of course I chose some of the easier ones first, but I like the feeling of achieving and completing something soon which keeps the momentum on.
Lately, I decided to join the Toastmasters International club which has helped millions of men and women become more confident in front of an audience (more like public speaking). Toastmasters will give you the skills and confidence you need to effectively express yourself in any situation. Whether you are a professional, student, stay-at-home parent or retiree, Toastmasters is the most efficient, enjoyable and affordable way of gaining great communication skills. By learning to effectively formulate and express your ideas, you open an entirely new world of possibilities. You’ll be more persuasive and confident when giving presentations and you’ll improve your one-on-one dealings with others.
Public speaking is a common source of stress for everyone, especially moi. Some studies have shown that fear of public speaking ranks up close to with the fear of death. So I decided to do something about it this year and it’s going great. Although I am yet to overcome it but, I am getting more confident by the day and I am not as stress as I use to be. I wonder why I didn’t do this earlier, well rather later than never!
Due to my fear of standing up in front of a group and holding the microphone, I have passed on some really good opportunities because I was reluctant to face my fear. That is all behind me, now, I am doing something about it and I am seeing the rewards quickly. I am encouraged to face whatever stands in my way now. Who knows I might take up flying lessons!!! Hey! steady Buky.
This year is the year of ”DOING IT’. I can’t wait for the end of this year to come so I can see all the things I’m able to achieve. I am excited already.
You ought to do the same too.
